Mindset Over Everything

What You'll Learn: Why you must shift your mindset first to get and stay healthy.

Bonus: Every wondered how many calories you need to lose weight? I will show you the easiest way to do exactly that HERE.

It’s that time of year when everyone’s fired up with new resolutions and big plans, right? I wrote about this in last week's letter and gave you some specific tips to make your resolutions stick.

But here’s the thing—if you want to hit your health goals this year, it’s not about finding the perfect diet or workout plan. It’s all about your mindset.

Mindset Over Everything

If you want to lose weight, build muscle, or feel good in your own skin, you’ve got to start seeing yourself as the person you want to become. Think about it—real change starts in your head.

Instead of saying, “I’m trying to eat healthier,” tell yourself, “I’m someone who eats foods that make me feel amazing.”

Swap out, “I need to work out more,” for, “I’m the kind of person who stays active because I want to stay strong and healthy.”
It’s wild how a simple mindset shift can get you aligned with your goals. And here’s the cool part: when you believe you’re someone who values healthy choices, you’ll naturally start to make them.

Why This Matters So Much

If you see yourself as someone who hates working out, dragging yourself to the gym is going to feel like torture.
But when you start thinking of yourself as someone who loves movement, exercise becomes something you actually look forward to.

Changing your mindset might feel awkward at first, but it’s the foundation of real, lasting change. And guess what? You don’t have to be perfect. It’s about showing up as that person, one healthy choice at a time.
Remember, the ability to exercise is a privilege. There are people who cannot do it. You can. So come at it from that perspective and take advantage of what your body can do for you.

Easy Ways to Get Started:

  • Set Goals You Care About: Skip the vague stuff like “I want to lose weight.” Instead, try something like, “I’ll cook three healthy meals this week” or “I’ll take a 20-minute walk after dinner.”

  • Celebrate Small Wins: Big changes are just a bunch of little wins stacked together. Did you drink more water today? High-five yourself. Walked an extra block? Well done!

  • Picture Your Future Self: Spend a few minutes each day thinking about the version of you who’s already hit their goals. How do they live? What do they value? That’ll keep you motivated.

  • Keep It Real: Life happens. Miss a workout? Grab takeout? No biggie. The key is to keep going. Consistency beats perfection every time.

Let’s Make It Happen

This year can be different. Decide right now that you’re someone who prioritizes their health, makes choices that match their goals, and keeps showing up—even on the tough days.

Foods that work with your body—not against it. Think unprocessed, protein-packed, fiber-filled options that keep you full, energized, and actually satisfied. As someone who’s kept off 125 lbs for 20+ years, here's something I've learned: what you eat matters just as much as how much you eat. Here are my top...

Let’s talk about something that might not be the sexiest topic in the health world but is absolutely critical if you’re trying to lose weight: awareness of how much you’re eating. I know, I know—counting calories or even just paying attention to portion sizes can feel like a chore. But here’s the thing: most of us are terrible at estimating how much we’re actually eating. And I mean really terrible. Here’s a wild stat: studies show that people underestimate their calorie intake by as much as...

Hi there, If there’s one lesson I’ve learned in 20+ years of health and fitness—and keeping off 125 lbs myself—it’s this: Protein isn’t just a nutrient; it’s a game-changer. Whether you’re aiming to lose fat, build muscle, or simply feel stronger, hitting your protein target can make or break your progress. Today, let’s unpack why aiming for 1 gram of protein per pound of your ideal body weight (yes, you read that right!) is the gold standard, backed by science and real-world results. But...
