Eliminate the Guesswork of Weight Loss


Today we're applying systems thinking to your goals.

I want you to picture a car. If we're going to drive that car, we must ensure it runs properly.

We need to ensure we have enough gas to get us where we want to go. We should also make sure all other systems in the car are functioning properly.

Is the braking system working? Does the transmission function the way it's supposed to? Do the headlights work? Is the air conditioning working?

As we think about these details, we make sure that all systems are working. We're applying a systems thinking approach to our car.

Below is a picture of a system (stole this from Charlie Morgan, a business coach I'm working with).


We have inputs (gas, properly functioning brakes, etc...).

We have a process in the middle (the car running and us driving it). And, we have an output (us getting to where we need to get to).

And finally, we have feedback. Maybe a light turned on letting us know one of the systems isn't working and we need to take a look at it (low on oil, brake light, etc...).

An important note is that this system functions in an environment. Our environment has a huge impact on how our system needs to be set up so that it works properly. Are you driving in snow or up a mountain? Get my point? Environment matters.

What if we could take the mystery out of our health goals by applying a similar way of thinking?

Let's imagine we have a goal of losing 20 lbs.

What do we need to make sure happens for us to lose that weight?

If we apply our systems thinking approach, we need to look at what science says needs to happen for us to lose weight.

Science says we need to intake less energy than we expend.

In our weight loss example, the inputs are our behaviors, the food we eat, the exercise we do, etc...

The process is our body's metabolism and other functioning systems.

The output is whether we lose weight or not. If we put in the right inputs, we'll have weight loss. If you eat too much or move too little, you don't lose weight.

And finally, when we step on the scale or try on that old pair of jeans, we have our feedback mechanism. We then take this feedback, adjust our approach, and give it another go.

And again, the environment we're in has a huge impact on this entire system.

Are we in an environment where there is a ton of ultra-processed foods around us, and we just can't help ourselves? Are we surrounding ourselves with people who are making unhealthy choices and thereby making it that much harder for us to make good decisions? These things matter. They matter a ton. Don't underestimate your environment. It affects how this entire system works.

So, I bet you're asking how we can make this weight loss system work as quickly and efficiently as possible.

There are two answers to that question. The first, harder way is to go and research everything you can about weight loss, habits, behaviors, nutrition, fitness, etc... You get the point.

The other, quicker way is to find someone who has already lost weight, learn from them, and apply their system. If you can find a proven system, why not just use that?

This is why I do what I do. Because I've been there. I know what it's like to weigh almost 300 lbs and pull myself out of that mental and physical hole.

Am I trying to sell you on my coaching or my new fat loss course?

Yes and no.

If you have someone that you trust and who can help you apply a proven system to lose weight, then you should run to that person and ask them for help!

If you don't have that person in your circle, then you need to find someone you trust to help you. It could be me, or it could be someone else. Will it cost you?

Yes, most likely you'll have to spend some money to get to your goal quickly. You either pay with time or money. We can always make more money, but we can never get time back.

My aim with today's email is that you allow yourself to take the guessing and mystery out of weight loss or health and realize that you can find a system that works, apply it, and get the results you want.

Find someone who's done it. Learn how they did it, then apply their system to your life. We're all different, success leaves clues, and you can apply a proven system to your circumstances.

But you have to start.

Even if you don't feel ready, even if you're telling yourself you're too busy right now. Do you know how many busy overweight people there are?

A lot. Too many.

So what are you going to do to take control of your goals? I suggest you start with the first step. Find a system. Apply it. Start.

Whatever you do, just don't put it off any longer. Don't wait. Start now.
