How to Stay in Control When Life’s Off Routine

Hey there,

If you’ve been out of routine lately—traveling, wrangling kids during summer break, dealing with events, heatwaves, or just… life—this one’s for you.

You might be feeling a little bloated, unmotivated, or like all your healthy habits went on vacation and forgot to take you with them.

Good news: You’re not “off track.”
Even better news: You can stop trying to “start over” and just keep going.

Here’s how.

1. It’s a pause, not a problem.

Let’s drop the all-or-nothing mindset for a second.

You didn’t mess everything up. You hit pause. That’s it.

Whether you’ve been eating differently, skipping workouts, or just not feeling “in it,” that doesn’t mean you failed. It means life got busy. It happens. It will continue to happen.

What matters most is what you do now. Not what happened last weekend. Not what you ate on that trip. Not how many workouts you missed.

Instead of spiraling into guilt, ask:
“What did this week teach me about what I need when things get busy or chaotic?”

2. Trust > Control

Control feels powerful in theory. But in practice? Trying to control everything usually leads to burnout, binging, or giving up when one thing goes “wrong.”

Let me say this clearly:
You don’t need more control. You need more trust—in yourself.

Vacations, parties, disrupted sleep, unexpected stressors—those are part of life. Weight loss success doesn’t mean avoiding them. It means knowing how to bounce back.

So instead of punishing yourself with 5 workouts and a juice cleanse, try this:

Pick one reset ritual. Something simple that says, “I’m back.”
Could be:

  • One healthy meal
  • A 10-minute walk
  • A quick mindset journal
  • Re-opening your tracking app without dread

One move. Then the next one. That’s how real momentum builds.

3. Plan for the next disruption

This won’t be the last time your routine gets thrown off. Summer, holidays, family drama, random Wednesdays—life will keep happening.

Instead of just recovering, ask yourself:
“What small systems can I have in place so I’m not starting from scratch each time?”

Maybe it’s keeping protein bars in your travel bag.

Maybe it’s saving a 15-minute no-equipment workout on your phone.

Maybe it’s a go-to mental reminder like:

“My next choice matters more than my last one.”

The more flexible your mindset, the more resilient your results.

You’re Still In It

Setbacks aren’t the enemy. Quitting is.

And you haven’t quit—you’re just realigning. That’s what progress actually looks like.

You’re human. You had a summer moment. Cool. Now what?
Now you show up. You take one step. And then another.

If you need structure and support to build habits that survive real life—not just “perfect weeks”—that’s exactly what I help with in LeanOS.
