You’re Doing the Work… So Where Are the Results? Let’s talk about something frustrating — working your ass off in the gym, showing up for sessions with your trainer, never missing a day of workouts… and still not seeing the fat loss you expected. If that’s you right now, I see you. And more importantly — you’re not broken. This is a super common experience, and it doesn’t mean your body is resistant to fat loss or that you just "don’t have the genetics." It usually comes down to three overlooked mistakes I see even smart, motivated people make (often with the best intentions): 1. You're Relying Too Much on Exercise to Burn Fat Here’s the deal: exercise is great for strength, performance, and health — but it doesn’t actually burn that many calories. Research shows that structured exercise (EAT) makes up only 5–10% of your total daily energy expenditure. Compare that to non-exercise activity (NEAT) — walking, moving around, cleaning, pacing — which can account for 15–30%. It adds up way more than you think. So if you’re training hard but sedentary the other 23 hours of the day? You’re likely not in the deficit you need to be. 2. Your Nutrition Isn’t Aligned With Your Goal Many trainers give general advice — eat cleaner, cut back on junk, hit some protein — but fat loss requires a bit more precision. Are you in a consistent, measurable calorie deficit? Are you tracking your intake accurately? Are you adjusting as your body changes? Small miscalculations here can mean the difference between progress and plateaus. 3. You're Not Measuring What Matters It’s easy to get caught up in the scale, but fat loss success shows up in other places first:
You need to zoom out and look at the bigger picture, because the scale alone doesn’t tell the whole truth. If you’re not seeing progress despite training hard, it’s not that your body is broken — it’s that the strategy needs tuning. Hey, Let’s talk about something that doesn’t get enough attention: The health risks of being “just” 20 pounds overweight. You might think, “It’s not that bad… I’m not obese. I work hard.
